Nw that I
have a general idea I started developing the characters, choosing to try my
hand at the brother or Him, as I had taken to calling him. I started by
sketching down a couple of quick heads. I did not really like any of these
particularly but the one from the top, left-hand side, at least showed a
qualety of appeal that interested me, even though it was creepy.
The head
not having worked I tried to attack the girl instead for two pages. The results
of which you can see below.
I continued
to work on the for several pages and arrived at quite a nice result.
Lastly, I
thought my current progress on both of the siblings on one page to see if they
would work in the same environment and make notes on what I had to change.
I have also
started working on the script for my animation and will add a general outline
of it after the break.

After a few moments the Siblings (He and She)
come into shot
Ø
They open the side of the box
Ø
They begin to enter, He leading the way

Cave
Ø
Inside of box has transformed into Cave

Zooming out from Medium-shot to Long-shot on
inside of cave mouth
Ø
He enters around right lip of cave, torch in
hand.
Ø
She enters left.
Ø
Slowly, She behind He, they progress past either
side of the camera

Castle
§
Close-up of outside of box
Ø
The viewer can hear the two children rummaging
around inside the box, it shakes
Ø
Suddenly they tumble out of the Box
§
Track out with
Children
Ø
The box has become a castle, She has a
princess-hat, he cardboard sword
Ø
Exited they look over them, at the castle
Ø
They get up and pick up their things
Ø
They run up a flight of stairs on the outside of
one of the castles towers and pose dramatically at the top
Ø
The weight collapses the corner of the castle
and they tumble to the ground

Boat
Ø
The castle is a box again one corner squashed
and one of its flaps sticking up in the air
Ø
He is disappointed that the fun is over. She,
however, looks critically at the boxes new shape, smiles, and beckons for him
to follow her.
Ø
They walk around the back of the box.
§
Pan around the front of the box, mirroring the
siblings movement
Ø
The box transitions into a sailing skiff on the
high seas, cutting through the waves, She is at the prow enjoying the sea
breeze.
§
Low-Angle on prow of ship
Ø
He comes up beside her they both look out toward
the horizon.
Ø
He gets exited, pulls out a cardboard tube and
braces himself on the railing looking through the telescope
Ø
The railing crunches flat under his weight

Race car
Ø
The siblings look at the now wedge-shaped box
Ø
He has an idea, hops onto the box and zooms away
on a racecar, leaving his sister behind
Ø
He is having fun zooming around corners and
driving fast, suddenly his sister rips him out of it
Ø
She suggests something else and gently moves a
disappointed Brother of the dented rectangle.

Horse
Ø
She gets on the box side-saddle and it leaps
into motion a large horse
Ø
Her brother looks on with distaste
Ø
Suddenly he jumps in front of the horse and it
rears up.

Rocket
Ø
The brother grabs two corners of the box and
upends it, tipping his sister to the ground
Ø
The upright box transitions into a space-rocket
Ø
The brother grabs a helmet and shoots of into
the stars
Ø
Suddenly a group of meteors show up, He tries to
dodge around them wildly but one of them hits his sip on the nose squashing it
flat

Bird
Ø
The brother looks on in astonishment as a smug
sister grabs one end of the box, now squashed into a U shape
Ø
The box spreads a couple of wings and the girl
soars away on a giant bird, sticking here tongue out at her brother over her
shoulder.
Ø
With a mighty bound He leaps at the Bird and
mimicking his sister from earlier, squashes the Bird into the ground with a
vengeance

Flying Carpet
Ø
A distraught sister looks at the no utterly flat
box
Ø
He grabs it and speeds of on a fling carpet, a
smug smile upon his face
Ø
Just as He is starting to enjoy himself again
the carpet is yanked out from under him

Tea party
§
Cut to longshot
Ø
The Sister Starts laying the box for a tea
party, an content smile on her face, the brother in the background, his anger
building
Ø
The Box transforms into a posh rug and the tea
party comes to life
Ø
He grabs one end of the, but she holds onto the
other
Ø
They both tug on their ends, cups and saucers
fly everywhere
Ø
After a struggle the rug rips

Shreds
Ø
The two sibling a lie amongst the shreds of what
once used to be the box, He still holds a twisted piece of cardboard in his
hands, She is hugging her legs, trying not to cry
Ø
He looks around and realizes that everything is
destroyed
Ø
Guilt he offers his sister the large piece of
cardboard he was still holding on to
Ø
She looks at it, hiccups and her beginning sobs
transition into laughter
Ø
After a moment and feeling slightly sheepish he
joins in
Ø
After a moment, still smiling he gets to his
feet and helps his sister up
Ø
They leave together, the same way they entered
